Price Guide
Following your enquiry, you will receive a fixed quote for any remedial work involved. The prices below are designed to provide an indication of our costs, which vary based on the size of your painting and the complexity of your requirements.
Clean & Revarnish (£150-£400 + VAT)
Our conservators will carefully remove any accumulated dirt, soot, and tobacco which exists on top of the varnish. This is a simple, non-invasive, process and carries no risk to the paint surface itself. Your painting will then be revarnished.
CLEAN & varnish removal (£190-£750 + VAT)
If the varnish layer on your painting has discoloured or degraded, this should be removed. We employ a number of solutions to do so and it’s a little more complex due to the various varnishes used over the years. Also, if there are previous repairs, these may need to be retouched due to the often fragile nature of historic restorations. Our techniques are designed to enhance longevity and we have a policy of minimal intervention - e.g. we believe in retaining the artist’s original hand wherever practically possible.
REPAIRING Torn canvases (£150-£1050 + VAT)
Torn canvases can sometimes be patched using conversation-grade materials. In this instance, any areas of paint loss would need to be carefully retouched using reversible methods and conservation best practice.
FLATTENING BUMPS (£75-£225 + VAT)
Bumps and dents can be an unsightly distraction. These can be addressed with varying degrees of complexity.
LINING A CANVAS (£415-£1250 + VAT)
At times, it may be necessary to line (or reline) a canvas to provide support for a failing one. Our conservators will undertake this process carefully, adopting best practice conservation methodologies.
